Lipoma

What is a Lipoma?

A lipoma is a benign, fat-filled tumor which forms under the skin, and presents as a soft lump, that can often be movable under the skin.

Lipomas can appear anywhere on the body and are typically slow-growing, painless and often multiple.

Despite being generally harmless, lipomas can be unsightly and, when grown, may lead to some discomfort or potential complications.

Causes and Symptoms

The exact cause of lipoma formation is not fully understood, but they are believed to be related to genetic factors past trauma, minor injuries.

They are often asymptomatic, meaning they usually do not cause pain or discomfort.
